The announcement comes one day after Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, called for the dissolution of the leadership of the Kwara chapter of the party for alleged anti-party activities. Lai had also said those who secured appointments under the leadership should resign with immediate effect.

He argued that since the entire state executive members had signified intention to leave, the national leadership need not waste time in recognising another faction led by Bashir Bolarinwa. Making the announcement on Monday, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party said the decision was after a review of “some actions of some leaders of the party” and the “open calls for the Senate President to decamp to the PDP”.

“The National Working Committee (NWC) at its meeting of 30th of July, 2018 examines the unfolding development with the party in Kwara State, specifically the irregularities that characterized the conduct and outcome of the congresses that produced the leadership of the party at all levels (ward, local government and state),” the party said in a statement.
